I'll have to think about what freedom means to means to me. There is the obvious about being able to do what I want when I want (within limits). Then there are the freedoms that are immaterial but are so important in our society. Can we define fre...

Mark your calandars for June 14 as we will be recognizing the dozen or so of our members that came forward this past year (Sept 08 through May 09) to assist in the worship services as "liturgists". If you are one of those, please come to the servi...

Just a reminder that our worship time is changing to 9:00 a.m. this Sunday. Once again we will be meeting downstairs in Bethany Hall. One of the themes for the summer is "come as you are" so if you get up late and want to come in your pajamas that...

I come to church, to hear music that inspires me, and to hear the word of the lord from a person who is well versed in it. I don't want to attend a service where some people who read the bible sometimes, then go on with the rest of their lives exp...

I am not a member of this church, yet, so I will not have a vote next Sunday. The following Sunday, Shannon and I intend to join this church. We've visited quite a few different churches of different denominations and this one is the most real to ...

There will be a special church conference on May 17th immediately following the worship service. The business will be the adjustment of the pastor's salary and any issues that arise from the need to adjust the salary. The Rev Dennis Alexander will...

"Field of Dreams" saved the old Guthrie Theater for a week. I was asked to come and plead to keep it from being torn down. I saw that we were up against ten very fancy-suited attorneys, all dressed in the sharpest black outfits. The protesters let...

This is a terrific way to keep everyone informed of what happens during your week in St. Cloud at the Conference.

Just as a reminder to everyone here that starting on June 1st worship will be at 9:00 a.m. in the basement. We hope to do some different things and the goal is a some what shorter service (we'll see about that :).

Don't forget to bring your cup for coffee or other beverage. It will not bother me if you drink during the service. Also, if you have plans later for the day wear won't you will be wearing to your activity, or bring it to church and change there.

And, most important, plan on meeting Jesus.

I think that for this First Church Talk to be viable and robust it really needs you, as a pastor, to post some things. It will add legitimacy and perhaps prompt others to try this out. This site needs to have a cheerleader and I am him. I truly believe that it is a great way to connect with everyone. BUT I need some help and as you are at the top of the spiritual food chain I would be grateful for a little help.

Pastor Brown's sermon dealt, partly, on what we discuss, for instance, before church services. We agreed that whatever we talked about it was probably not about Jesus. This First Church Talk provides that forum and so I think that Pastor Brown "got it" without intending to. It's precisely what my vision is.

A Prayer for Those We Often Forget

A Prayer for Those We Often Forget
God, school started back this week and we have been busy asking you to help the kids be open to learning this year and that they have a safe year. We also have been talking to you and asking for the teachers and administrators to help the students as they teach and minister to them in their own way. And, of course we have been praying for the parents as some are sending their child(ren) off to school for the first time while others have been doing it for over a… Continue

Grace, Part 2-Are We a Grace Filled People

Recently there has been some publicity about some polls in America. Being opinion questions and answers they are not always real accurate in their results. At the same time they can point to some interesting dynamics at play in what ever the person who commissioned the poll is studying. The Christian faith and practice is one of those subjects that many people take polls on and get widely varying viewpoints and results. However, one of the common threads in many of the polling results is the att… Continue

Grace, Part 1

I am starting a series of articles on grace. The plan is to do it in a sequential series, but please be understanding and flexible if it does not happen that way. The one today will focus on what is grace, and the next one will be asking the question "are we, The Church/The Body of Christ, a grace filled people?" Comments are welcomed, and I will try to respond to them, it may just take a little while. Please feel free to share this if you think it is helpful.
We in the church often talk about g… Continue

What I Hope to See the President Do

There is almost a tangible euphoria in the country right now as Barack Obama has been inaugurated as President of the United States and begins to assert his influence on world affairs. Many people are overjoyed he is in the office and is promising change and there are others who are dismayed he is in office promising change. There are those who see Obama as the Savior of our country, and there are those who see in Obama the personification of the Anti-Christ. Those who see him as savior or the A… Continue

Death at Retail-Who Is at Fault?

I saw a headline the other day proclaiming the family of a WalMart employee who had been trampled to death by a crowd rushing into the store immediately after the doors were opened on “Black Friday”, the day after Thanksgiving with the big retail stores’ sales, was suing the company for wrongful death. The little synopsis of the article mentioned how in the court papers that were filed WalMart created an atmosphere of anxiety by having such a sale. I haven’t seen much in the news about what WalM… Continue
