"A word aptly spoken
is like apples of gold
on pictures of silver."
This is from the Book of Proverbs and my high school Sunday School teacher's favorite quote from the Bible.
I have thought about it many times in the decades since she shared it with our Sunday school class.
It remained with me.
In the heat of any argument or discussion, I thought about it.
Aptly spoken...
If we offer salve for the heart, it reminds me of Edna St. Vincent Millay's poem, "Checho-Slavakia" in which she says, "if there were a balm in Giliad, I would go to Giliad for you, unhappy land..."
Let us find the words to grace the lives of those around us, and finding them, let us say them in words aptly spoken to be a balm and a healing word and a blessing so beautiful it's like apples of gold on pictures of silver.
My sisters in my family tell me that I laugh these days more than I have in the past 20 years. They tell me that being a Daddy has transformed me. I don't worry and fret and get depressed so much about everything. Darci makes me laugh a lot.
Well, Shannon just turned the big 40 and I have been kidding her about how young that must feel.
It's good to laugh.
It's great to find reasons to praise God.
I am humbled to find this very wise and thoughful congregation of the Lord.
We enjoy fellowshipping with you.
This is a great journey and I hope we will always find the best words we can to be a part of it and to thank you, aptly.
...And to thank Ms. Marilyn Rothacker for telling me about this Church, which is how I found you.
